چکیده

A 200-mg amount of bacampicillin showed a significantly higher relative extent of bioavailability than did a 250-mg amount of talampicillin, possibly due to their different stability in the digestive juices.

amino b-lactam antibiotic. As with other ampicillin prodrugs such as pivampicillin and talampicillin, bacampicillin was developed almost 30 years ago under the hypothesis that the addition of a lipophilic moiety to the hydrophilic ampicillin molecule would improve intestinal absorption of the parent drug. It has been reported that ampicillin exhibits 33—54% bioavailability after oral administra...

Pharmacokinetic comparison of oral bacampicillin and parenteral ampicillin.

Bacampicillin is a new oral prodrug which is rapidly converted to ampicillin during absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. High serum peaks of ampicillin are obtained. Bacampicillin orally was compared pharmacokinetically with parenteral ampicillin (intravenously and intramuscularly). A cross-over study on healthy volunteers showed that ampicillin concentrations after equimolar doses of ba...

Pharmacokinetics of bacampicillin compared with those of ampicillin, pivampicillin, and amoxycillin.

Bacampicillin, a new oral prodrug which in vivo is rapidly transformed to ampicillin, was compared with ampicillin, pivampicillin, and amoxycillin in a randomized cross-over study on 11 healthy volunteers. All drugs were given in oral doses equimolar to 400 mg of bacampicillin (800 mumol). The mean of the individual peak concentrations in serum was 8.3 mug/ml for bacampicillin, 7.1 mug/ml for p...

No effect of oral N-acetylcysteine on the bioavailability of erythromycin and bacampicillin.

In vitro studies with N-acetylcysteine (NAC) solutions used for inhalation treatment have demonstrated inactivation of some antibiotics by NAC. Oral NAC treatment is increasingly common for long-term prophylaxis in chronic bronchitis. During exacerbations, treatment with oral antibiotics will often be given simultaneously. We assessed the effect of simultaneous oral administration of NAC on the...

Bacampicillin: a new orally well-absorbed derivative of ampicillin.

Bacampicillin (proposed international nonproprietary name), 1'-ethoxycarbonyloxyethyl 6-(d-alpha-aminophenylacetamido)penicillanate, is a new orally well-absorbed penicillin, highly active in vivo due to rapid transformation into ampicillin. The compound is stable in vitro at gastric pH and hydrolyzed slowly to ampicillin at neutral pH but very rapidly in the presence of biological fluids, e.g....
